Thanksgiving, A Time Of Reflection

For Thanksgiving, we attended at our daughter and her boyfriends home, hosted by them and their sweet baby boy. We all brought different dishes of food, with the hosts providing the main dishes and such a beautifully decorated home. We talked and dined, dined as we talked, as we all caught up on the different times where life had taken us to. For our daughter and her boyfriend, life is presenting them to different challenges, as they go through parenthood, lack of sleep due to getting up with the baby, just trying to keep this busy time in their lives, on track, scheduling with everything and attending to the love of their life, this sweet young boy, our grandson. Two of our other grandchildren were also there and the house was alive with love, watching the kids have fun, running up and down, being as active as they could, everyone happy.

This was our daughters very first time, hosting everyone, lots of hard work in the preparations and her and her boyfriend had done such an amazing job with everything. For me it was a time of reflection, watching our daughter, who at one time, was as young as her young boy. I had such joy watching her eyes beaming as she looked into her sons eyes. The love inside this home was plentiful, given the many roads where life has taken us all to and yet, in another place in this world, some family members were able to gather together and just enjoy good fellowship.

This special day of Thanksgiving, is a day of reflection, to reflect upon the things that we are so grateful for; family, friends, our Veterans near and far who protect us and enable us to have the lives that we live, as we know, it could be so much worse.

Relationships are something to be treasured. For us to gather in one place, does not need the riches of the world, best cars or houses, best jewelry, best of anything. Very recently, I lost my cousin Mikey to a serious illness. Although I have written 4 books of Poetry, I would like to end this Thanksgiving blog, with his favourite Poem and mine, which was written by Athey Thompson, called ‘Gather Up’, as follows;

GATHER UP – By Athey Thompson:

‘ I shall gather up all the lost souls

that wonder this earth,

all the ones that are alone,

all the ones that are broken,

all the ones that never really fitted in,

I shall gather them all up,

and together we shall find our home.’
