Just A Bit About

In the last 12 years, I have written 4 books of Poetry that have been published and are readily available in Canada, the United States, Asia, Australia, among others. In Canada they are available at Chapters Indigo and in the United States at Barnes and Noble, as well as other book stores and Amazon and online Walmart stores. The names of the books are as follows;

  • On Faith We Fly
  • The Bells Of Humility
  • Whistling Pops
  • Once To An Autumn Sonnet
Writing kind of came up on me as a very young boy at the suggestion of a school teacher in Jamaica. I was born in Toronto, Canada and at a very young age, became a Crown Ward of the Toronto Children’s Aid Society, spending some time in Foster homes. At about 5 years of age, I was adopted to a Jamaican family so off I was taken on a plane and went to live in Jamaica. Well, that didn’t work out too well with my adopted parents in Kingston and their biological son so I soon went to live with my adopted grandparents in another part of Jamaica called, Old Harbour. My grandparents were the most amazing people, farmers who were very kind and loving. On their farm, they grew sugar cane, tobacco, had dairy cattle, on many acres. Growing up on a farm in Jamaica was a great life, being introduced to what hard physical work really was. My grandfather would leave the house in his rubber boots at early sunrise, came home for lunch and was back with the workers in no time and didn’t come home till sunset.

I was lucky enough to be sent to a boys private boarding school in Mandeville, which is close to the centre of the Island, by the name of DeCarteret College. This school was one of the best things that ever happened to me, great education, great friendships, lots of sports and basically taught us how to grow up in this world. I have often said that DeCarteret College saved my life, because in my mind, with a whirlwind of an adoption, I was going no where very quickly. So at 16 years of age, I told my grandparents that I wanted to go back to Canada where I was born and continue my studies and go to College with my new found dream of becoming a Watchmaker. My grandparents were in the process of sending me to Germany to study Watchmaking, at the advice of a good friend who owned a few Jewellery stores in Jamaica. However we soon found out that in Germany the classes were all taught in German. So Canada it was. I landed in London Ontario staying with my grandmothers brother and his wife, very nice people, graduated from High school, off to Toronto, graduated from George Brown College in a 3 year Watchmaking programme and went to work for Birks Jewellers, which at that time, was one of the largest Jewellery stores in the world. After 3 years, I had a change of heart and went to work in the Security industry for a few years. I was eventually lucky enough to be hired and  serve as a Police Officer in Toronto, for 27 years before retiring. What an honour to work with so many intelligent and brave men and women, Officers and civilians and to wear the same uniform as the hero Officers, who died while serving their community. I will never forget them, many of whom I knew.

So with a carousel like spinning world, my teacher at DeCarteret College, taught me how to express myself in writing, when it was very difficult to express myself verbally, especially since, for years, I had a very bad stammer in my speech, which sometimes creeps up on me in my older age, from time to time. I have never been able to break this but have found methods to lessen stammering in my communications.

Hence, my blog.
