Blue mountain resort village

A couple of weeks ago, my wife and I decided to go to one of our ‘local’ favourites for some good R & R, Blue Mountains in the Collingwood area, about a 2 hour and 20 minute drive. We stayed at the gorgeous, ‘Westin Trillium House’ which is a Marriott Bonvoy property, as we are members of Marriott and we love collecting our points! Westin Trillium House is a hop and a skip into some of the most beautiful waters in the world, Georgian Bay.

Firstly, the drive to the Blue Mountains offers some of the most serene natural landscapes, with the fields of farming, reminding us of how grateful we are to our farmers who work endless hours to provide food on our tables. I was raised by my adopted grandparents on a farm in Jamaica and I always remember my grandfather leaving the house very early in the morning after drinking a cup of the famous Jamaican ‘Blue Mountain Coffee’ – no relation to this blog title – putting on his tall black rubber boots, hugging my grandmother and not coming back in until lunch time. Then off he would go again and wouldn’t return again until the sun just going down. He had several head of dairy cattle which he shared with his brother, grew tobacco, sugar cane, watermelons, among others.

So as you can see, the drive up connected well into lots of memories, to which I shared good conversations with my wife. Once we got into the Collingwood area, we both remarked on how every heavy thought just left us and we were in a much more soft and calm zone. This was one of the journey’s that we enjoyed.

We checked into the Westin, carted our bags up to our room and then took a nice walk around the area, of course checking out the pools – my favourite past time of all time – and strolling around the Blue Mountain Village, with shops of different kinds, clothing, restaurants and chocolates and chocolates and chocolates and chocolates; so sorry, malfunction on my typewriter, I mean laptop!

There are some excellent restaurants within the Blue Mountain Village or you can zip on over into the town of Collingwood for another excellent selection. Oh, my wife reminded me of the ‘Beaver Tail’ restaurant in the village so I cant forget that.

However, please do not leave Blue Mountain without having something to eat at the famous ‘Oliver and Bonacini Cafe Grill’, which is located on the main floor of the Westin. Breakfast, lunch or dinner, the food is exceptional and demands an A+. The service is among the best we have ever had!

Yes we basked by the main heated pool at the Westin, for hours in the day. We thoroughly enjoyed the aerial lifts inside the village, which took us to the tops of the Blue Mountains, exposing the most beautiful sights of the area, Collingwood and of course, the waters of Georgian Bay. With so much walking and moving around the area taking in the most beautiful sights and meeting some of the very friendly members of the community, when that time comes, as it surely will, this is where we may very well want to put our heads down to rest at the end of a day, as we continue on into retirement. It’s certainly one at the top of our big list!
