If you ever want to tell what someones personality is like, watch how they drive. So today, my wife and I decided to check out the new ‘La Maison Simons’ in the Yorkdale Mall in Toronto. We had been to Montreal a couple of weeks ago and been to a Simons there and loved it. Simons has been around in Quebec since 1840 and have recently decided to put some of their stores in the Greater Toronto Area. Of course, this is after I had spent a couple of hours at the beautiful, ‘Vandermeers Nursery and Garden Centre’, admiring the flowers that she likes, says the smiling me.
After a relaxing time at the Nursery, then came the famous 401 highway that goes East and West through Toronto, with me at the wheel. Well, you have heard of ‘Aggressive Driving’ right; well this was ‘next level insanity’. While I was a Police Officer with the Toronto Police Service, one of the Units that I worked in was called the ‘Aggressive Driving Unit’ working out of the Traffic Office and every day when you thought that you had seen everything, along comes another one of those drivers that make you shake your head, like one of those dog ornaments that used to be on the dashboards of vehicles. Heavy traffic, reckless riders on motorcycles driving between lanes passing vehicles, drivers not signalling when changing lanes or that split second signal after they had already changed lanes, speeding whenever they can. If they needed to go that fast, they should have taken a commercial airline and flown business class just for the heck of it. Maybe its me, the retired guy who is in no rush to go anywhere, except the ‘Cheesecake Factory’ when we arrive at Yorkdale Mall. I think going through Toronto 401 highway, we need vehicles on rails, that can only go so fast, always staying so far apart, ensuring everyone gets to their destination safely. Well lets be serious, apparently we have tried everything else and some drivers just don’t get it. Maybe we do need Autonomous vehicles for the aggressive drivers who cannot control their bad driving habits and we need to have someone else drive for them.
After prayers and arriving at Yorkdale Mall safely, we did the La Maison Simons tour, such an incredible department store that I believe will continue to do Canada proud and then found our way to the Cheesecake Factory, had something to eat and then ordered 2 gorgeous slices of cheesecake to go. After loosing over 50 pounds and Playing Pickleball almost every day, I feel that this equation today was pretty well balanced. And thats that!
Off we again went back on the highway heading East toward our destination with the cheesecake to go. The highway seemed a bit clearer, only 1 or 2 Aggressive drivers and the traffic was a bit lighter. We got home, ready to enjoy a nice cup of coffee, but apparently, as fate would have it, the cheesecake did not arrive safely at its final destination.
And that’s all she wrote.
